The Root of All Evil? is a television documentary, written and presented by Richard Dawkins, in which he argues that the world would be better off without religion. The documentary was first broadcast in January 2006, in the form of two 45-minute episodes (excluding advertisement breaks), on Channel 4 in the UK. Dawkins has said that the title “The Root of All Evil?” was not his preferred choice, but that Channel 4 had insisted on it to create controversy.[1] His sole concession from the producers on the title was the addition of the question mark. Dawkins has stated that the notion of anything being the root of all evil is ridiculous.[2] Dawkins’s book The God Delusion, released in September 2006, goes on to examine the topics raised in the documentary in greater detail. In The Virus of Faith, Dawkins opines that the moral framework of religions is warped, and argues against the religious indoctrination of children. The title of this episode comes from The Selfish Gene, in which Dawkins discussed the concept of memes

I really appreciated this short documentary and must say that I profoundly side with Richard’s point of views. Religion has always been the creator of hatred/death, creating casts and undermining freedom. Sure some good has come out of it but it cannot pardon the hundreds of millions of lives it has cheated.
Those who fervently believe in a religion, live in such a dark and narrow minded place. It is sad to know that they are the ones that need the most help as religion only impoverishes them deeply (monetarily and morally). Those that vehemently adhere to a doctrine are dangerous as they have lost faith in themselves to do something constructive of their own lives. Thus it is easier to start blaming the world for their own misfortunes… and the hate they generate is a deadly virus to the uneducated, influenceable and the poor. Sad. Unfortunately these religious monkeys take 80% of the ‘air time’ news every day with their acts of wars and terror.
Atheists are a minority as we believe in one God: ourselves and the respect for others. There is not hate here in this small parcel of land!!
Go Dawkins!
Dawkins adheres to the language-paradigm of scientism. This view uses science to rationalize a belief in the non-existence of God. In such a frame of mind, everything wrong can be blamed on the religions of the world. While some religions do have great faults, it is important to understand what causes them. For example, it can be argued that the structure of American evangilism is very much influenced by the laissez-faire economics of that country’s laissez-faire capitalism and hollywoodism. And that the economic laissez-faire capitalism was very much dependent on the industrial revolution and that this was very much caused by science. The point being that everything is intertwined; it is too easy to blame only one node in the network, their is nothing scientific about that!
